As the history of banjara community says that the origin Banjara people in Marwar, southwestern Rajasthan and Northwestern India. The customs, language and dress also indicate that they originated from Rajasthan. Mewar is a region of south-central Rajasthan state in western India. It includes the present-day district of Bhilwada, Chittorgarh, Rajsamand, Udaipur and some parts of gujrat asnd Madhya Pradesh and Haryana also.
It is also said that Banjara's originally came from Gor Province of Afganistan before settling in Rajasthan. Banjara community is well known for its culture, beliefs, specialized trade & businesses, festivals, lifestyle, colorful traditional dresses, ornaments, bangles and language etc. Currently, Banjara community people are living in almost all of the state in India. People migrated from Rajasthan to other places in India as well as to other nations because of drought, extreme hunger and starvation during mid nineteenth century. But all Banjara population did no migrated due to every poor transportation that time. So still after such natural disasters and challenges, they stood at their place itself and have been struggling for well being and development.

Banjara's were traditionally Suppliers of bullock and salt merchants. The Community had engaged in trading and transportation of good-grains, arms and ammunition and essential commodities from one region to another. This profession leaded them homeless because it took months transit and they had to stay temporarily at different places on their way. Over period, they tried to settle down wherever they are.

The word Banjara is said to be derived from Sanskrit word vana chara which means wanderers in jungle. Banjara's are also called Lambani or Labani which is derived from Sanskrit word Lavana(Salt). Salt was among the goods they used to transport across the country. All these show the emergency of name, occupation, tradition and culoture of Banjara's.
Social Status
In Rajasthan, the people of our community use word Gawariya instead of Gor and they fall under Scheduled Caste(SC). The common occupation is small businesses of cosmetics, business of bangles, general stores, private jobs, driving tempo and ambulances etc. Very few people are in government jobs that too at subordinate level. Governments have been providing facility of employment in government jobs under reservation schemes but they are not being benefited with such schemes. Unfortunately many are not even aware about the reservation system, and government's policies for their welfare and development.
Government has implemented Right to Education(RTE),this is a universal entitlement to education and recognized on Economics, Social and Cultural Rights as a human right that includes the right to free, compulsory primary education for all, but tey aew still unable to send their children to the schools. The main Problem under their social system are:
- Lack of awareness of government policies and schemes for development of unprivileged classes for the society
- Lack of education
- Gender inequality
- Child marrieges
- Prevalence of kariyawar and mrityu bhij system
- Poverty and indebtedness
- Health and Nutrition
- Trends and tradition of expensive marriage and social rituals etc.
All such social problems are even destroying our new generation as well as talented and skillful youth as they are not getting exposure in educational environment.

Article 46 of the constitution emphasizes on promotion of educational and economic interests of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other weaker sections. The state shall promote with special care the educational and economic interest of the weaker sections of the people, and its particular, of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes, and shall project them from social injustice and all forms of exploitation.

Income level and occupational status can be taken into consideration while analyzing and judging economic status. Banjara community people in Mewar region are mainly depended upon the business of bangles, comb making, private jobs, driving taxis, autos, ambulances, trucks etc. Very less numbers of people are doing government jobs, and tey are like negligible, if we compare with whole of the population.
Economic conditions are too not sound due to dependence on small business and jobs, unsound financial position, incapable of competing with rich people, inefficiency in education and awareness. These challenges can be resolved with imparting education among is the key indicator of social and economic progress.

But the basic input is capital in the business. Amount of capital decides the size if business. Concentration on increasing size of business and inducing risk taking ability may increase the profitability in the businesses. Risk taking ability is developed with the confidence.
And confidence comes by knowledge.

More you study, more you will earn.One more issue in this region is that there is no integration among the people. Here lacks communications, accessibility and unity. It can be induced by forming development committees, a proper hierarchical organized body for their own development. Many persons are struggling for the welfare of the community at individuals levels and they are lacking the power of way. Welfare and development needs a proper/predetermined channel to pass through.
Saving and investment habits are also considered for analyzing economic status and here is it nil. They are unaware about their long-term benefits.
